Some people buy presents or go for a romantic meal but this girlfriend showed her devotion to her partner by carrying him through flood waters on June 4.

Bizarre photos have emerged of a woman in Wuhan carrying her boyfriend to make sure that he wouldn’t ruin his expensive shoes, reports the People’s Daily Online.

The woman is pictured carrying her boyfriend on her back as they cross flood waters.

The waters are deep, reaching above her ankles.

She can be seen looking down while her boyfriend laughs while also looking a little embarrassed.

The woman told Chinese media: ‘I am wearing sandals so it doesn’t matter that I cross the waterlogged area.

He was wearing leather shoes which have to be washed laboriously [if they are soaked]. So it was easier that I carry him to cross the water.’

The pictures have been widely shared on social media.

On CCTV News’ Facebook page, many people have criticsed the man for being so selfish.

Randy Leyva wrote: ‘He can remove the shoes and let his girlfriend carry the shoes and his girlfriend would be safe from feeling wet.’

Astrid Ann said: ‘I wonder why they never thought of removing the man’s shoes instead.’

Wuhan is one of the worst hit cities after flooding has devastated parts of China.

According to the Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, over 180 people have been killed in the country-wide flooding.
